MISSING PERSON CASE - NEW JERSEY
PATERSON - PASSAIC COUNTY
MISSING SINCE: JUNE 9, 2000 & JULY 22, 2000
DETAILS OF THE CASE
Francheska ran away from home in Paterson, New Jersey on June 9, 2000, a day before her thirteenth birthday. Her twin sister, Misheila, stated they were at 17th Avenue and East 22nd Street when Francheska said she was going to the store. On the same day at 1:30 p.m., Francheska called home and spoke to Misheila, stating that she was with friends at the Great Falls on the Passaic River in Paterson. She asked Misheila not to tell anyone, then hung up. She has never been heard from again.
Francheska told friends she was interested in attending the Puerto Rican Day Parade in Manhattan,
New York on June 11, 2000, but it's unknown if she ever arrived there. Friends also reported she was dating a 22-year-old man her family didn't know at the time. A few days after her disappearance, the clothing Francheska had been wearing on the day she vanished - un-torn but minus the shoes - was found in a supermarket bag in the driveway outside her mother's house.
Six weeks after her twin sister disappeared, Misheila also vanished on July 22, 2000. She left a letter to her mother, rebuking her for not loving their stepfather and alleged infidelity in her marriage; the letter said she and Francheska were unhappy at home. The girl's mother says she was not having an affair with anyone at the time.
The twins possibly left together on their own accord, traveling together possibly in the New York City boroughs of Brooklyn or the Bronx or were victims of human trafficking. There's a theory that their stepfather - Hipolito Miguel Corniel - may have something to do with the girl's disappearance. Corniel killed a young woman a few months after their disappearance and has served 17 years for it.
