Why Did I Write this Article? What compelled me to want to write this article was just the overall behavior of millennials and gen z individuals that I saw at the time and just how they reacted to the lockdown situation early on during the pandemic. I just kind of felt like a lot of the youth was so "privileged" just like how a lot of Americans were during the time of the lockdown period during the outbreak of covid around America. Just looking at the videos of people saying "screw you 2020" or "this is the worst year of my life" or some sort of meme-like reaction to the situation because of "XY and Z" just made me realize how many people take everyday life for granted. At that time I was like we were only in quarantine for 3 months - heck, even a few weeks - and people act like we were in quarantine for 30 years which really just showed how entitled Americans were especially the youth in America. Just to know that each state is trying to get a handle on the situation because of an incompetent president and instead of keeping themselves still for a minute to assess the situation, people, as well as the youth, still wanted to do everyday things and the result of that was a lot of deaths. So just to see people my age and younger assess the situation poorly and high schoolers - a graduating one at that - were going to have to miss their prom or they may have not been able to graduate and spend those final moments with their friends before high school was over. BUT my thing was at least you going to be here to experience a future and not be here to not see it. I totally get a lot of people were scared, a lot of people didn't know what was going on, and a lot of people had a carpe diem, YOLO mentality behind the situation, but still, I just felt like this situation just showed how entitled Americans are which was a sad reality to witness. So just seeing that seeing just the youth reception and reaction to the situation is the biggest reason why I wanted to write about YOUTH CULTURE DURING THE PANDEMIC.
